Earlier this week, I wrote about an article I found in Elle called "The Brush-Off" by Celia Ellenberg. Inspired by the article, I created the No Brush Challenge where, you guessed it, you're forbidden to use makeup brushes!
I watch and read a lot of the popular beauty vlogs and blogs, and even I have been frustrated with the super complicated, brush-heavy tutorials that seem to be the norm these days. I'll admit, I use brushes on a daily basis, but my two brushes are nothing compared to the handful most tutorials include.
So today, I'm giving my brushes a much needed vacay and using my God-given paintbrush--the almighty finger (that sounds weird, but I'm sticking to it). I've created a simple, everyday look with products that are best applied with your fingers (well, most are best applied with your fingers; mascara would get pretty messy):
I first started out with the new Wet n Wild BB Cream in Medium. I choose this "foundation" because it has a texture and formula that is best suited for finger application. It's easy to work with, feels like you're applying lotion instead of foundation, and you can't even tell I'm wearing it!
Next, I applied NYX Rouge Cream Blush in Tickled ($5.99) followed by NYX Powder Blush in Dusty Rose ($5.99). I decided to add a powder blush to help the cream last longer. And yes, I did apply the powder blush with my fingers; it's not as awkward as you might think. After blush, I applied Covergirl TruMagic The Sunkisser Bronzer ($10.99) under my cheekbones and along my hairline and jawline.
I then applied one of my favorite new products, Revlon Photoready Skinlights in Bare Light ($12.99). I applied this to all the usual places: cheekbones, forehead, the bridge of my nose, under the eyebrows, and my chin. I've tried applying this using a brush, but it looks so much better and won't disturb your foundation underneath when you apply it with your fingers!
Lastly, I finished with Mirabella Lash Essential Mascara ($22; click for my review) and NYX Eyebrow Pencil ($4.99).
Let's take a look at the results:
I don't know about you guys, but I really loved this challenge! It was easier than I thought, and while I hate getting my fingers dirty with makeup, the end result was worth it. I didn't have to worry about brush strokes or stippling marks, and I didn't have to clean any brushes afterwards.
I also noticed I used a lot less product since there wasn't a brush to trap and waste the product. No brush-washing, less product... I could really get used to this handsy thing!
What do you think? Are there certain products you think you have to apply with a brush? Is it realistic to go completely brush-free?
